Abstract: A "field guide" to tactician characters in FE1-FE12, meant to argue that the fandom conception of an "ideal" tactician as seen in fanfiction depictions of "Mark" from FE7 is very off-base compared to the canonical tacticians featured in the franchise over the years.  Core argument: a successful tactician is not likely to be a saintly intellectual or pure-hearted philosopher... or even a very nice person.  Revised in January 2013 to update the FE5 section, which ends up bolstering the main argument very well.  Somewhat snarky compared with other meta pieces.  Mostly avoids spoilers, but does contain one for FE2 and two for FE5.
